Although the New Year is typically the most common time for a change, we have listed a few career related resolutions that you can start any time.
Quit your dead end job:
Maybe you have tried to advance in your company, but there is no place for you to fit. Maybe you are stuck in a career field that you don’t like. Quitting your job can be one of the most stressful and life changing things to do. In order to quit your job and have a backup, consider reaching out to your local staffing agency. They can keep your resume on file and look out for jobs that might be a good match for your skills. Keep in mind that a staffing agency shouldn’t be used as the sole source of employment opportunities, but sometimes they can surprise you.
Become a natural at networking:
It feels like no one is completely comfortable when they are in a group of people, talking to strangers. The pros of networking outweigh the cons significantly. Meeting people can lead to advances career opportunities and can open doors you never thought of. To help your networking skills consider reading a book, attending a seminar to give you tips, or try jumping head first into an event where you don’t know anyone.
Get a promotion:
So many people dream of a promotion, but, like anything in life, it won’t happen if you do the bare minimum. To be considered for a promotion, make sure that you are taking an effort to prove your worth to your boss and company.
Learn a new skill:
An old dog can learn new tricks. No matter how old you are or how long you have been in your career field, it’s never too late to grow your skill set. Consider taking a class at your local community college, or finding online workshops that you can do to advance your skills.
Accept constructive criticism:
Sometimes it is a natural instinct to get defensive when someone offers you criticism in the office, but it may be beneficial to sit back and consider their criticisms. Maybe there is a more efficient way to approach a task. Don’t be afraid to make changes that others suggest.
Were any of these on your list for 2017? It is never too late to start again!
